(November, 2003) It All Ties Together!!

As you can see in this poster, Neo is holding his gun at an exact angle of 80 degrees, which is exactly how hot one can get wearing an all-black heavy trenchcoat like that during the summer.
If there's one thing The Matrix movies have provided scores of armchair philosophers, fanboys, and obsessive freeze-framers, it's symbolism. Metaphors and allusions are peppered throughout every scene of the epic; virtually nothing is by accident or a mere coincidence, but deliberately and carefully inserted by the Wachowski brothers to give the films added weight. And to dupe bloggers into talking about them a lot. But when you finally get down to deconstructing them, you'll find that IT ALL TIES TOGETHER!!!
Take, for example, the incessant uses of 1's and 3's. Neo is an anagram of "ONE". Trinity means 3. Neo's apartment number at the beginning of The Matrix is 101. The Merovingian is on the 101st floor. The chase takes place on the 101 freeway. When Trinity hacks into the power plant system, she uses the password Z10N0101. Then there's 303. 303 is the room Trinity is in at the beginning of the Matrix, the Oracle lives in room 303, it's also the room number where Neo gets shot by Agent Smith. 101 x 3 = 303, a trilogy. 303 is also a reference to the Roland TB-303 bassline, the acid box that accompanies every fight sequence. See!
IT ALL TIES TOGETHER!!!
But that's not all! Look, at the end of The Matrix. Neo is all alONE, in a phONE booth. Both alONE and phONE have ONE in it, and it means him! One is also the first number. One and One make Two. Two and One make Three! Trinity. Trinity is Three Ones. Trinity needs Three Neos to keep her sexually satisfied.
Then look at Zion. Zion in 1337sp34k is Z10N. 1 and 0! That's binary. Zion is a binary city of humans depended on machines to win the war. If there are no machines, there is no war! Incredible! But probably even more incredible are the rife computer references. Neo is like Tron, and Morpheus is like Bob the Guardian. The Matrix is an operating system, which explains why it crashes so much. That means The Architect is really Bill Gates!

This is what The Matrix looks like when you make a wrong turn.
There's also a lot of religious symbolism in The Matrix movies. Clearly, The Keymaker represents Jesus Christ, as he has all the keys to the answers. The Merovingian represents Napoleon, because they're both french and they both lost the battle but escaped (Persephone, incidentally, represents Monica Bellucci). Trinity represents fetishism, and the war against the machines is like the struggle to mow the lawn on a lazy Sunday morning. WOW. Neo adopts a Bishop's cassock for his avatar in the second movie. As we all know, cassocks are Russians, and all Russians are commies. So Neo is really the living symbolic representation of the Marxist revolution to come, freeing the minds of the people from their capitalist slavemasters to begin a new paradise where everyone owns everything. But if you look really closely, you can see how Agent Smith is Buddha, especially with the way he overpronounces his lines. When he pulls up to the Warehouse in Reloaded, you see his license plate which says "Is54:14", which is a passage in the Bible that reads "Behold, for I am Agent Smith, and I can't believe you just looked this up to see if you can get some kind of deep, hidden meaning out of a popcorn movie. Get a life, you loser."
If you also notice when Cypher makes his deal with agent Smith, he says "Ignorance is bliss." That statement has 5 syllables in it! 5 in binary is 101. And if you look, it's also the distance in inches that the fork is from his mouth when he said that. AMAZING! And for desert he had NEOpolitan ice cream! Cypher wears a watch on his left hand, and that shows his treasonous nature, because all left-handed people are traitors. You see?
IT ALL TIES TOGETHER!!!
I could write a whole novel just on The Oracle's connections. You notice how every time she gives Neo food he suddenly accelerates his powers? That's because the food is helping him. The Oracle is like the team manager, and Neo is like the greatest power forward ever. Oracle spelled backwards is Elcaro, which is ancient language for "One". One is also the number of times I needed to see Reloaded to understand it all.
The Architect says words like concordantly, concurrently, ergo, inexorably, vis-a-vis, irrevocably and assiduously because being pompous and self-righteous is the most fun in the world. Morpheus would say them too, but he doesn't know what The Matrix is because he took the blue pill. Isn't it amazing how this entire movie ties together? The first movie is about the future, the second movie is about the present, and the third movie is about the future again! Everything comes full circle. It's like when Neo is told to wake up, he actually wakes up! Yes, IT ALL TIES TOGETHER!!!...if you look hard enough.
